Dartmoor LegendsMysterious and intriguing, Dartmoor has 368 square miles of untamed beauty.

Inhabited by humans for over 4000 years, remains of their existence can still be found today. Abandoned mine workings and prehistoric tombs across the moor have been the source of many legends and folklore. What secrets do the granite tors and mist shrouded hollows hold, and why do these legends continue today?

Our aim is to bring to you a series of some of the most well known Dartmoor Legends, and personal stories from the people who have lived around them. The first of many is The Legendary Trail.

Ordiance MapThis is our first project for 2008, The Legendary Trail follows a route directly through the centre of Dartmoor.

The route begins at the Dewerstone Rock, Shaugh Prior where it is alleged the evil Dewer and his Whist Hounds have driven many a poor soul lost on the moor, to their death over the cliff edge.
